Physical Therapy FAQs

What makes SANA different?

Physical Therapy at Sana sets the highest standard of care with each treatment session being one hour of one-on-one physical therapy, hands-on, with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Your therapist will never pass you to an aide or assistant or leave you to treat another patient.
Our private treatment rooms provide a calming environment and our providers will recommend an examination and treatment approach for you that will be based on current research and best practice guidelines. Your physical therapist will provide you with a sustainable program as you progress with your care, so your problems remain in the past.

What sets you apart?

A few things make treatment at SANA very different.
-
Specialty Care - Every clinician at our practice works exclusively with you. Our Doctors of Physical Therapy have post-graduate training in orthopedics, pelvic health, vestibular, and pilates based rehabilitation.
-
Hour-Long Sessions - All our sessions are full-length with the specialist. You'll never see an aide, student, or assistant during your visit, you're always treated by a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
-
We focus on holistic care and are both orthopedic and pelvic health specialists, we can assess the full body from a specialist's point of view.
-
Many insurance-based practices depend on volume due to low reimbursement from insurance companies and see upwards of 4-8 patients in one hour per physical therapist. We believe our model of quality care gets patients better faster and you get the quality physical therapy care you deserve.

What is my first appointment like?

You'll be welcomed by our team as soon as you arrive and you'll head into a private treatment room with your physical therapist. You'll be able to share your story, symptoms and goals without feeling rushed.

Your first appointment at Sana will involve an in-depth evaluation of your injury by your Doctor of Physical Therapy. You and your therapist will discuss your history, current functional limitations and goals for treatment. Once we have a clear picture of what is going on it is easier to help you more effectively, so we will ask you a lot of questions about your pain or difficulty and will perform tests and maneuvers to determine the cause of your symptoms. You will receive treatment at your first appointment and a lot of education about your condition or injury. You'll leave with an 'Action Plan' for going forward for how to meet your goals.

What is Pilates-Based Rehab?
Pilates-based physical therapy is a holistic, whole body, and evidence-based approach to physical rehabilitation. It incorporates principles of the Pilates method and the use of Pilates apparatus, including the reformer, cadillac/tower, and chair. Pilates equipment can be used by anyone at any age, with any impairment. The Pilates equipment allows for safe and precise movement with the elimination of gravity on painful joints or injured tissues while correcting movement dysfunction.
With one-on-one instruction from a Pilates-educated physical therapist, you will optimize movement patterns, improve range of motion throughout the body, and increase overall stability and core strength. A Pilates-based physical therapy program can be customized to fit anybody from a new mom looking to get her core back after pregnancy to an elite athlete wanting to gain a competitive edge, or to a senior looking to improve low back or joint pain.

Logistics
Do I need a prescription from my physician?
No, you can just schedule your evaluation! We will send information over to your physician so they are aware we are working with you, but you don't have to jump through hoops to get started. After you begin, we will need your physician to sign a prescription if your treatment plan is longer than 10 visits and/or 30 days.

How long is your waitlist?
We strive to see our patients as soon as possible - if you have to wait months for treatment, it's not helpful! We never want our schedule to be the limiting factor. Depending on your flexibility, we can usually get patients in within the same week.

Do you have flexible times available?
Yes! Our first appointments are at 7am and our last appointments are at 6pm to accommodate as many schedules as possible. If you have a specific day or time you need, we will book out your appointments to ensure you always have a spot that works for you.

Coverage & Cost:
We accept insurance for physical therapy. We are in-network with certain insurance plans and out-of-network with others. Deductibles, Co-pays and Co-insurance vary according to plan coverage — we are happy to find out what your particular plan covers. Your financial responsibility will be discussed with you prior to your first visit.

At SANA, we accept and are in-network with traditional Medicare & Medicare Advantage PPO plans, No Fault & Auto.
We also accept out-of-network coverage for physical therapy with commercial insurances. Depending on your plan, all or some of your physical therapy may be covered.

If you have an HMO and no out-of-network coverage, you will be able to come to SANA at our discounted self pay rate. Studies have shown when receiving patient centered quality care you will need less physical therapy visits compared to insurance-based models where little time is spent directly with the patient, often costing a similar amount after factoring more co-pays and frequency of visits with insurance based-models.
How do I get started?
Just give our office a call 716-671-7262! We can answer any other questions you have and find a time for your initial evaluation. You don't need a prescription or any testing to get started, we will do our own full evaluation of your case.
